Friends of Thwaite Gardens

Recently the University has agreed that members may visit while the volunteers are on site – currently 1.00-3.00pm on Tuesdays and 9.30am- 2.00 pm on Fridays.  Please continue to behave responsibly in terms of Covid-19 and do not visit if feeling ill or if you are required to isolate.

Take a leisurely stroll in the tranquil surroundings; take in the beauty of the many mature specimen trees; observe the changes as the seasons progress; learn of the wildlife habitat, or simply sit and enjoy the surroundings. Note: Dogs welcome but must be kept on leads.

The Friends group also hold two meetings a year when members and guests come along to hear knowledgeable speakers on topics of horticultural interest. The details of these meetings will be announced in the newsletters and on the Events Diary page. They are friendly informal meetings where members are able to meet other members and have a chat during the break when refreshments are provided.

The Friends also hold an annual Open Day, usually around the third Sunday in May. This has been a resounding success with members and the visiting public alike. Should you wish to assist with the organisation of the open day, new helpers are always welcome. Volunteer helpers have always ensured its success by helping with the plant stall, refreshments or by growing/ providing plants for sale on the day.

For details on how to join see our Membership page. See our Mission Statement for more about our aims and purpose.

For current information on events please see the Events Diary.

The Friends of Thwaite Gardens is a member of the Friends of Botanic Gardens Forum. This is an association to bring Friends groups around the UK into closer contact with each other to share experience.
